Marc Victor Music Yes, I totally agree with you. This man was an absolute genius. Which reminds me of a short story I’ll share with you. The first time I heard and saw Prince was around the early 80’s. He was peforming “I Wanna Be Your Lover” on MTV I think. I was around 9-10 years old. My initial reaction was, “Wow, this song is really cool! Who is that woman?”. I didnt know any better. I got drawn into his web right away. For me, it wasn’t until the movie and soundtrack for Purple Rain that he officially became a star. Mind you, this was 1984. Michael Jackson had the planet in the palm of his hand with the reign of “Thriller”. These two guys were the premier artists of that era. My paternal grandmother learned of my fascination with Prince and enabled it by purchasing the Purple Rain LP for me for Christmas. What a time! One night, I was at home with the whole family watching the 1985 Grammy Awards. I happened to be the only one in the household who was under Prince’s spell. So much so that I sat in front of the TV cradling the Purple Rain LP in my arms during the show. My family looked at me like I was crazy, but i didnt care. When they announced the nominees for best song of the year, Purple Rain was one of them along with one of Michael’s songs of the Thriller album. My heart was racing at the moment. The envelope was opened, and VOILA! Prince won! I got up and ran around the house with that album in my hands for 5-10 minutes, yelling at my family, “I told you so!”, over and over. To conclude, Prince is by far one of the best musicians i have ever witnessed. I will ALWAYS honor his legacy. One of the best.
