The song that saved me was Sam Cooke “A change is gonna come”. I spent a lot of my life in serious addiction. My dad died from an overdose a little over a year ago, addiction is deep in my family. This song saved me. I heard it at my lowest. I was homeless with my family(my wife and 4 kiddos). I had nothing and wanted to give up, to just finally die. This song have me hope. Helped me beleive in something better. I am 8 years clean and my family is still intact. In fact we are thriving and I am back pursuing my passion, the reason I am here on earth. Writing and playing music! Sorry so long. Thanks for reading.

@FromTheAshes thanks for sharing your story, I imagine at times you have felt every emotion all at once. Choices and challenges aren’t always the ones we ever thought we’d see or want to experience.

I just listened to “Change is Going to Come”, Sam Cooke, and can understand why this song has carried you through.

I then listened to “Said and Done” and “Wayside”. When I listened to “How Can I Be” and “Broken Home Blues” I could hear the momentum of change in your lyrics and music.

It’s incredible when we look back and see where we have been, and then look forward to where we want to go.

You will be a great mentor. Think of your music like beacon for others to listen to because its got soul.

The song that healed my pain, is created from a poem that I once wrote . Titled “Kept Inside”. Years later I reworked that poem into a song also titled “Kept Inside”. You should always speak your heart because you never know how much time you have left!!!
